Pinch pots
This method starts by creating a ball out of the clay. You then slowly push your thumb about half way through the clay and slowly pinch around trying to create equal thickness around. This technique is great when your trying to create round pots or round objects. When creating a pinch pit it’s easier to close your eyes and rely on how even the walls feel rather than look.
Coils
Coils are created by grabbing a chunk of clay and rolling it along your palms to create a log shape. You then place that log on a table flatten your fingers together and roll the clay away from you applying pressure and then roll it back without applying pressure. After a while (and practice) you will have an evenly thick coil. This is perfect for creating limbs, coil pots or whatever else you may need a coil for.
Tip as you roll your coil it may begin to crack. This could be caused due to several reasons from not having enough moisture in the clay when you started, spending too long rolling, or using an absorbent work space. Sometimes you may need to restart the process but you may be able to fix this by smoothing out cracks with water.
Slab building
This method involves having your clay and rolling it out to create a flat evenly thick clay. I’ve used this method before when creating boxes. However, it’s the method I use least overall.
