Why I Chose Folklore For My Website

Posted on September 13, 2025 by Margaux

Folklore throughout history has been used as a way to educate, entertain, and make sense out of the world around us. These stories are not just extremely entertaining but also help us share who we are as a community. Have you ever heard someone say Knock on wood to stop a jinx? Have you heard a local ghost story? Have you ever talked to a kid about Santa Claus? That’s all folklore! While we know Santa Claus isn’t real, we share the story because it adds a bit of whimsy to our world.

Sock Goblinz aims to provide a place to share, create, and discuss folklore. Whether that be a grimms tale, a video of a goblin, sharing a Mothman sighting, or a story that explains why cats meow. Folktales are more than old stories, but are constantly being created and changing. Adding your own spin to an old story can make them entirely unique.

A good example of this is what this site is named after. The Sock Goblin is a creature used to explain why people away seem to lose one sock. No one knows where this story originated, yet it’s story is every changing and growing. Where does the sock goblin live? What does the sock goblin look like? Why doe the sock goblin steal socks? The answers to these questions all depend on the person you ask. At it’s core folklore is about human connection and creativity. So put away your skeptics and hold on what’s possible and lets share some fun stories!
